Snowy Escapes and Alpine Magic: A Winter Getaway to St. Moritz

Dreaming of the ultimate winter getaway? Follow along as we explore the magic of St. Moritz—from a scenic Glacier Express train ride to skiing the legendary slopes of Corviglia, spa retreats, Michelin-starred dining, and horseback rides through snow-covered forests. This Swiss alpine escape is the perfect mix of adventure, luxury, and unforgettable scenery.

Riding the Glacier Express

Our day started with a train ride from Paris to Zurich, continuing on to Chur—where the real magic began. The leg from Chur to St. Moritz aboard the Glacier Express felt like stepping into a snow globe. This iconic route winds through UNESCO World Heritage landscapes, snow-capped peaks, and frozen lakes, delivering some of Switzerland’s most stunning views right to your window seat.

Once in St. Moritz, we checked into our hotel—a luxurious retreat complete with a spa, gourmet dining, and, of course, ski-in/ski-out access. After settling in, we rented skis from the friendly team at Ivo’s Sportshop and hit the slopes of Corviglia, ready for the adventure ahead.

Skiing Above the Clouds

Skiing in the Swiss Alps is unlike anything else. The runs here stretch far above the tree line, with lifts that feel like they ascend straight into the sky. Even the blue slopes (their version of beginner runs) offered a satisfying challenge, paired with jaw-dropping panoramic views.

After an adrenaline-packed day, we retreated to the hotel’s indoor pool and hot tub—pure bliss after a day on the slopes. Dinner was at Hide & Seek, the in-house restaurant, where the warm ambiance and delicious food rounded out a perfect alpine day.

Snowstorm Serenity & a Michelin-Starred Evening

We woke to a snowstorm that shrouded the mountains in mist. The visibility on the slopes was limited, so we embraced a slower pace. After a short ski session, we spent the afternoon in the hotel spa, indulging in massages and steam rooms while the snow fell softly outside.

That evening, we had an unforgettable meal at Ecco, the hotel’s Michelin-starred restaurant. Every course was a work of art, and the truffle pairing elevated the experience to something truly exceptional. If you're a foodie, this spot is a must.

Town Charm and Snowy Trails on Horseback

For our final day, we took a stroll through St. Moritz town, where luxury boutiques, charming chocolate shops, and jaw-dropping lake views made for a perfect low-key morning.

But the highlight? A winter horseback ride with Gina’s Reitschule. Riding through snow-covered forests and frozen lakes was straight out of a fairytale—peaceful, quiet, and utterly magical.

To end the trip on a high note, we enjoyed a cozy fondue dinner inside a private gondola at the Carlton Hotel, suspended over the snowy mountains. A quintessential Swiss experience that was as romantic as it was delicious.

From train rides through glacier valleys to spa afternoons and Michelin-star dinners, our time in St. Moritz was filled with unforgettable moments. Whether you’re a ski lover, a foodie, or just looking for a winter escape with soul, this Alpine gem has it all.

Until next time, Switzerland!
